Rates - Factor Calc - Factor Calculations

Organisation | Entitlements | Rates | Factor Calc tab | Factor Calculation field

Summary

Use the Factor calculation field on a Rate record to control the calculation of a rate value.

This functionality allows you to apply a number of factor calculations to a rate to derive a rate value. You can use a variety of standard factor calculations or specify an employee field as a factor.

A. Fixed Amount of

Selecting this option enables the Factor and Factor operator fields.

Factor – Enter any value between -9.9999 and 99.9999.

Factor operator – Select from Multiply, Divide, Add and Subtract.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the Factor to the rate. For example, if you wanted to increase the rate by 20% then you would enter Factor = 1.20 and Factor operator = Multiply.

Note: You can also use this Factor calculation with rate groups to round rates to a specific number of decimal places. By default, PayGlobal uses four decimal places. If you wanted to round a derived rate to two decimal places, then you would multiply the rate by 0.01 (to remove the last two decimal places), and multiply it by 100.

For example, the original rate is 15.2486.

15.2486 * 0.01 = 0.1525

0.1525 * 100 = 15.25.

You can also use this method to eliminate rounding errors when you derive rates. If you divide the original rate by 0.01, do your calculations, and multiply it by 0.01, then you gain two decimal places during the calculation process.

B. % of Profiled Hours where Total is

Selecting this option enables the Factor and Factor operator fields.

When Factor calculation = ‘B. % of Profiled Hours where Total is’ and Factor = '0', then the resulting factor is zero.

If Factor is not '0', then the resulting factor is:

Total profiled hours / Rate Factor.

C. Amount of Employee Field

Selecting this option enables the Employee field to factor and Factor operator fields.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the value in the specified employee field to the rate. You can multiply a rate by any numeric employee field including UDFs. For example, you could store an employee's shift allowance percentage in a UDF, then use it to calculate their rate.

D. Avg Profiled Hours per day

Selecting this option enables the Factor operator field.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the following value to the rate:

Average Profiled Hours per day = Total profiled hours / Total non- zero days

For example, if the employee was profiled to work 40 hours from Monday to Friday, then the value would be 8 (40/5).

Generally, this option is only used in conjunction with rate calculation D. Standard default Hourly Rate to create an employee's Daily Rate.

E. Avg Profiled Hours per Week

Selecting this option enables the Factor operator field.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the Total profiled hours value to the rate.

Generally, this option is only used in conjunction with rate calculation D. Standard default Hourly Rate to create an employee's Weekly Rate.

F. Avg Profiled Hours per period

Selecting this option enables the Factor operator field.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the following value to the rate:

Total profiled hours * 52 / Employee’s annual number of pay periods.

For example, if the employee’s Total profiled hours = 40 and they are paid monthly, then the value is 173.3333 (40 * 52 / 12).

G. Avg Profiled Days per Week

Selecting this option enables the Factor operator field.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the Non-zero days value to the rate. For example, if the employee was profiled to work 40 hours from Monday to Friday, then their Non-zero days would be 5.

H. Avg Profiled Days per Period

Selecting this option enables the Factor operator field.

PayGlobal uses the Factor operator to apply the following value to the rate:

Non-zero days * 52 / Employee’s annual number of pay periods.

For example, if the employee was profiled to work 40 hours from Monday to Friday and they were paid monthly, then the value would be 21.6667 (5 * 52 / 12).

I. Avg Worked Hours per Week

PayGlobal uses the Average hours per week value on the employee's Long Service (i) tab as the factor for the calculation.

J. Annual number of pays

PayGlobal derives the value of this factor from the PayPeriod.Frequency of the employee’s PayPeriodCode:

Monthly = 12
Bi-Monthly = 24
Fortnightly = 26
Weekly = 52
Four-Weekly = 13
Variable = 1.

K. Profiled days in year

PayGlobal derives this value of this factor from Profiled days in the week *52.

L. Profiled hours in year

PayGlobal derives this value of this factor from Profiled hours in the week *52.

M. Agreed Hours per Week

PayGlobal derives this value from the employee's definition of week.

It is recommended to use this factor for converting the following weekly Holiday Pay rates to an Hourly rate.

  • Average Weekly Earnings (AWE) - see rate calc "QW"
  • Ordinary Weekly Pay (OWE) - see rate calc "OW"

When calculating rates using this factor calculation, the rate will use the employee's definition of week as at the leave transaction start date.

N. Agreed Days per Week

PayGlobal derives this value from the employee's definition of week.

It is recommended to use this factor for converting the following weekly Holiday Pay rates to Daily rate.

  • Average Weekly Earnings (AWE) - see rate calc "QW"
  • Ordinary Weekly Pay (OWE) - see rate calc "OW"

When calculating rates using this factor calculation, the rate will use the employee's definition of week as at the leave transaction start date.
