Summary

This report is prepared for the Statistics Department and is also known as the Quarterly Employment Survey. It provides estimates for measuring employment levels and the average pre-tax earnings and hours paid to employees. These statistics help Government and other organisations in planning and decision-making.

This report contains the following information, categorised by gender:

  • Total of full-time working proprietors
  • Total of part-time working proprietors
  • Total of full-time employees
  • Total of part-time employees
  • Total of ordinary time paid out
  • Total of overtime paid out
  • Total of ordinary time hours
  • Total of overtime hours.

A Statistics report text file is also written to your Inbox. This can be used for electronic submission to the Statistics Department.

Important: You can run this report on closed pay sequences only.

Procedure

To find the information that is required in the Statistics Report, PayGlobal:

  1. Checks the gender of each employee (male or female).
  2. Checks the employee status code (full-time, part-time, full-time working proprietor, part-time working proprietor, other). You can choose whether to report on all employees or just those paid in the selected date range. For example, this takes into account any employees that may be on leave, on strike or temporarily laid off.
  3. Checks allowances. For ordinary and overtime payments and hours, PayGlobal checks that the allowance is set to Include in Statistics Report on the Allowances - Details (iii) tab.
  4. Checks whether allowances are taxable on the Allowances - Details (i) tab. Although the total for non taxable allowances are not included in the Statistics Report, the hours for the allowance may be.
  5. Checks the allowance type. The allowance type is irrelevant if the allowance is taxable. To include the number of hours in the Statistics Report, the Allowance type must be one of the following:
    • H. Hourly
    • R. Salary
    • L. Annual Leave
    • S. Sick Leave
    • V. Leave Credit Paid
    • O. Long Service Leave

The Quantity field is used for the hours. If a leave type allowance is used, any days used are converted to hours based on average hours per day.

NZ Annual Leave Payouts

You should include annual leave payouts on the Statistics Report. When you create annual leave payout allowances, on the Details (iii) tab, select Include in statistics report = "Yes". See Annual Leave Payouts (NZ).

The Ordinary setting on the Details (ii) tab of annual leave payout allowance records controls where values are displayed on the Statistics Report.

  • Ordinary = Yes. Paid out leave is displayed in the Ordinary time payout and Ordinary time hours fields in the Grand Totals section.
  • Ordinary = No. Paid out leave is displayed in the Overtime payout and Overtime hours fields in the Grand Totals section.
