Competencies - Details

Summary

A competency is "the ability to perform activities within an occupation or function to the standard expected in employment". The Details tab defines the level, credits gained and time frame for a particular competency.

Fields
Unit standard level:

Qualification Standards Authority level for a particular competency, if assessment is gained by completion of a recognised course. For example, NZQA Level 7 is equivalent to a university qualification.

Credits:

Number of credits that a competency gains towards a recognised qualification.

Time to acquire units:

Unit used to measure the length of time to acquire a competency. Time applies to competencies learned through educational providers and on-the-job experience.

  • Months.
Time to acquire length:

Number of units needed to acquire a competency.

Reinforce period units:

Unit used to measure reinforcement of the skills learned before a competency is achieved. An employee needs a period of time to practice the skills learned. The reinforcement period varies according to the frequency of the type of work involved. Options are the same as the Time to acquire units field.

Reinforcement period:

Length of time of the reinforcement period.

Registered unit standard:

This Yes/No field indicates whether the competency has a Qualifications Authority standard applied to it.

Use the following options to categorise Competencies records:

  • Competency (default)
  • Unit Standard
  • Procedure
  • Language.
