Rate Rules

Organisation | Entitlements | Rate Rules

Summary

You can use rate rules to determine the correct payment rate by specifying two rates and defining an appropriate operator ("Greater of" or "Lesser of"). However, the rates must use the same units. For example, you could compare two hourly rates, but you would not compare an hourly rate with a daily rate.

Example

In New Zealand, the Holidays Act 2003 states that outstanding and accrued annual leave is paid out at the greater of the employee's:

  • ordinary pay rate
  • average earnings pay rate for the previous 12 months.

As a result, Annual Leave Tables - Rules tabs are set up with appropriate rate rules to ensure that employees are paid annual leave at the correct rate.
