Entity Code Widths

Administration | Maintenance | Manage Tables | Main Menu | Tools | Entity Code Widths

Summary

Important: Before you run the Manage Tables command, you must turn off Referential Integrity. If Referential Integrity is not turned off, then PayGlobal cannot remove any records that are referenced. After you run the Manage Tables command, you should run the Check Database Integrity command.

Most codes in PayGlobal use a configured code width of twelve characters. Sometimes organisations use coding conventions with less than twelve characters. For example, the coding convention for the Employees table could use only six characters.

Procedure
  1. Tag the entities on which you want to manage the Entity Code Widths. Use Ctrl+Spacebar to tag all entities.
  2. Use the Statistics tool (Manage Tables command | Tools | Entity Code Widths | Statistics) to display information about records that need to have their code widths reduced.
  3. Highlight the first entity that you want to reduce the code width for.
  4. Press Enter. The Entity Widths form appears.
  5. Enter the required width in the New width field. For example, ‘4’. The default value is the current maximum code width currently used for records in this entity.
  6. Click the OK button. The new code width appears in the New column of the Manage Tables window.
  7. In the main menu, click Tools | Entity Code Widths | Update. The following warning message appears:

'Change entity code widths for all tagged tables?'

  8. Click the OK button. PayGlobal stores the changed entity code width so it can enforce this new width. An audit log warning box appears.
  9. Click the Yes button to view the audit log, which displays all tables that have had their code widths changed.
  10. Press Esc to exit the audit log.

Now you cannot enter codes longer than the values that you have specified for these entities.
