Relative Breaks

Summary

Relative Breaks occur after an employee has worked a specific number of hours.

Important: Absolute Breaks and Relative Breaks must have different codes.

 

When to use

Use Relative Breaks for employees who work a variety of shifts. Relative Break times occur after a specified number of hours have passed since the employee clocked in.

Complete the following fields:

After x Hours:

Enter the number of hours that an employee must work to qualify for the break time.

Give Break of:

Enter the break in hours and minutes. For example, half an hour = 00:30.

Apply after:

Optional. Specify when the break will be inserted relative to the start time of the shift (see Using the 'Apply After' field).

The example above provides three breaks after set periods of work time:

  • 15-minute break after two hours worked
  • 30-minute break after four hours worked
  • 15-minute break after six hours worked

If an employee works from 08:00 to 16:00, this Relative Break Code will provide the following breaks:

  • 15-minute break at 10:00
  • 30-minute break at 12:00
  • 15-minute break at 14:30

Procedure
  1. Navigate to Rostering | Breaks.
  2. Press Insert.

    The Add Breaks window appears.

  3. Enter a Code, such as R01.
  4. Enter a Description, such as Relative Day Shift.
    You need to complete the Relative box only.
    1. In row 1 After x Hours field, enter 02:00.
    2. In row 1 Give Break of field, enter 00:15.
    3. In row 2 After x Hours field, enter 04:00.
    4. In row 2 Give Break of field, enter 00:30.
    5. In row 3 After x Hours field, enter 06:00.
    6. In row 3 Give Break of field, enter 00:15.
  5. Click Save + Close.
  6. Navigate to the Break field in the Employee's record.
  7. In the Break pick list, click the required break code.
  8. Click Save + Close.
