Shift Group:

Shift Groups record common costing information between Shifts. You can override the settings of a Shift Group entered here using the Costing tab page of a Shift.

Reason:

This field is used to flag PayGlobal to automatically calculate the end time of a Shift if you have entered a start time and duration.
