Maintain Log Files

Administration | Security | Maintain Log Files command

Summary

Every time PayGlobal processes a procedure, for example, when you run a command, an Audit Log file is generated. The Maintain Log Files entity lists the current log files in your database.

As log files accumulate, they impact on available disk space on your system. You need to periodically clear old log files from your system.

Optimising your system

Delete log files regularly to optimise your system. As a safety measure, PayGlobal will only allow you to delete audit logs that are more than five days old.

What does the Maintain Log Files command do?

The Maintain Log Files command generates text file outputs for all major events in PayGlobal such as:

  • Processing a pay
  • Running reports
  • Importing a file to PayGlobal
  • Exporting a file from PayGlobal
  • Opening and closing rosters
  • Generating work areas
  • Opening actuals
  • Importing clock data
  • Opening a standard or manual pay
  • Importing pays
  • Rebuilding accumulators
  • Clearing tables

You can use the Maintain Log Files command to view, edit and delete these text file outputs at a later date. Each event generates a one page text message.

Log File Maintenance form

When you run the Maintain Log Files command, PayGlobal displays the Log File Maintenance form.

The form displays the following columns of data:

  • Filename
  • User
  • Creation Date
  • Creation Time
  • Delete

The Log File Maintenance form has a default sort order of date then time. This means the latest log file created is displayed at the top of the list.

You can change the sort order by clicking each column header. However the default setting is always applied when you initially enter this form.
