Daily View - Gantt Charts

Daily View

Summary

You can customise Employee View Summary to display a Gantt chart. This graphical illustration of a schedule helps you plan, coordinate, and track specific tasks. A Gantt chart has:

  • A horizontal axis that represents the total time span of a project, which is made up of units such as days, weeks, or months.
  • A vertical axis that represents tasks in the project such as research, select software, and install software.

Add a Gantt column

This example adds a column to Employee View Summary and then customises it to display Gantt details.

  1. To create room for the new column, place your cursor on the border between the Employee View Summary headers and the Employee View Summary cells.

Your cursor changes into a double-headed resize arrow.

  2. Drag the border down one row.
  3. In the main menu, click Tools | Customise | Customise Columns or press F10.

The Customize box appears with a list of the available columns.

  4. Drag-and-drop a Day Column for... column into the corresponding day in the new area under the Employee View Summary headers.

Note: Two green arrows indicate where the Day Column for... column will be inserted.

  5. Close the Customise list.

The Day Column appears for every day displayed.

Now you need to specify the data source.

  6. Click a Day Column cell in Employee View Summary.
  7. In the main menu, click Tools | Customise | Customise Column Extensions or press Alt+F10.

The Customise Column Extensions form appears.

  8. In the Data source field, select the required Gantt view, such as 'Gantt: {current view}'.
  9. Click OK.

Employee View Summary now displays a Gantt column.

Save your layout

When you finish customising your layout, you must use File | Save Layout As to save your settings. Your most recently saved layout becomes the default layout, and you will see it whenever you access this window. If you do not Save Layout As, then your changes will be lost when you exit or apply another layout.
