Summary

Employees are entitled to several legislated public holidays each year. Your organisation may also grant certain days off as staff holidays.

You need to set up Holidays records to ensure that you pay employees correctly on public holidays.

Function

PayGlobal uses Holidays records to calculate employee payments on designated holidays.

Payroll Rules calculate payments for employees who worked on a designated holiday so those employees receive benefits, such as overtime or lieu payments.

Procedure

To use Holidays:

  1. Create the required Holidays records.
  2. Create the required Holiday Groups records and add the appropriate Holidays records to each Holiday Group.
  3. On employee Payroll | Contract tabs, select the appropriate Holiday Group.

Coding

When you set up Holidays records, you should use a standard coding convention because certain public holidays, such as Christmas and New Year, occur on the same day every year. We recommend coding holidays in chronological order (YYYYMMDD) to group each year's holiday dates.

For example, Christmas and New Year public holidays for 2017 and 2018 would be:

  • 2017-12-25 - Christmas Day 2017
  • 2017-12-26 - Boxing Day 2017
  • 2018-01-01 - New Year's Day 2018
  • 2018-01-02 - New Year's Holiday 2018
  • 2018-12-25 - Christmas Day 2018
  • 2018-12-26 - Boxing Day 2018
