Summary

Casual employees are employees that don't have permanent hours, who generally work when they are required.

You pay casual employees the same way that you pay permanent employees. However, there are some differences when you set up casual employees that you must be aware of when you pay casual employees.

Setting up Casual employees
  • On the Employees - Contract tab page, set Employee status to 'Casual'. The Statistics report uses this setting.
  • On the Employees - Payments tab page, set Auto-pay to 'No' to stop payments from being automatically generated when you open a Standard pay.
  • On the Employees - Payments tab page, casual employees do not need to have profiled hours.
  • Attach casual employees to an annual leave table that has Annual leave pay employee type = 'Casual' on the Setup tab page.

This annual leave table setting ensures that when you pay a casual employee, PayGlobal automatically creates an annual leave transaction.

If you want casual employees to accrue annual leave, then attach them to a proportional annual leave accrual table.

Note: These points are guide lines only that may vary from Company to Company. For example, some organisations may give casual employees profiled hours.

Superannuation Guarantee (Australia only)

Employers are exempt from making SG contributions to employees whose salary or wages are less than the minimum monthly figure stipulated by the ATO.
