Summary

Use an allowance type Z. Employer Super allowance to pay Employer Super Contribution payments.

These payments are typically generated using a payroll rule.

Payroll Rules

A Super Calculation allowance group contains allowances that form the employee’s Superable Earnings. Payroll rules use this information to:

  • Calculate the amount of Superable Gross for the allowance group
  • Generate a Superable Earnings non-paying allowance transaction.

When the payroll rule calculates the employer’s superannuation contribution, it uses a set rate, which varies between countries.

The payroll rule creates a non-paying hidden allowance that is used for reporting purposes. The allowance shows the superable earnings amount that the employer’s percentage contribution is calculated on for each pay period.

Note: If your database does not contain any superannuation payroll rules, then discuss your requirements with your Consultant for advice and assistance.

ESCT (NZ)

In New Zealand, Employer Superannuation Contribution Tax (ESCT) is a tax on any monetary contribution to a superannuation fund that is paid by the employer for an employee's benefit.

In New Zealand databases, you can select Tax overrides tab | Override type = "ESCT" on the transaction form for Z-type allowances with Tax override = "Yes".

Note: The Tax overrides tab is displayed on the transaction form only if the allowance has Paying = "No" and Tax override = "Yes".

If you select Tax override type = "ESCT", then Override amount defaults to 0.00. You would normally leave this value unchanged. When PayGlobal calculates ESCT for this type of superannuation allowance transaction, it uses the following hierarchy to determine an employee's ESCT rate:
