Summary

A work area is a place of work. It is a physical location where people do tasks associated with the business activities of the organisation.

Corporate Structure

In a PayGlobal database, corporate structure defines an organisation's business activities. This structure is the basis for systemic reporting across the database, and it provides the framework for the organisation chart.

When you configure the corporate structure, you create a framework of work areas. The operational aspects of an organisation can occur at many geographical locations so a work area is a combination of the following elements:

  • Geographical - Physical business sites, such as cities, areas or territories.
  • Operational - Business activities ranging from high level output streams, such as divisions, groups and business units to lower level activity-based outputs, such as departments.

You can use the following PayGlobal entities to create a Work Areas record:

  • Two standard mandatory entities - Location (geographical) and Department (operational).
  • Four definable optional entities - Dims 1-4.

"Dim" is an abbreviation of "Dimension". Dims are non-mandatory PayGlobal structure elements that you can use for operational or geographical aspects of work areas, such as team or district.

You must define the work area structure correctly because you will combine Work Areas records with Positions records to create Work Area Positions (WAPs), which define your organisation chart.

Work Areas components

The following entities are used in Work Areas records:

  • Locations
  • Departments
  • Dims (such as Regions and Districts).

Although Work Areas use the following entities, they are not required to create the corporate structure.

  • Cost Centres
  • Budget Centres
  • Jobs
  • Awards
  • Rates.
