Work Area Positions - Job Evaluation

Human Resources | Position Management | Establishment | Work Area Positions | Job Evaluation tab

Summary

Job evaluations enable an organisation to align the salary for a Work Area Position with salaries in similar industries. Recalculate Position in Range uses the Job Evaluation tab values to calculate how a WAP fits in with other WAPs in the organisation.

Fields

Evaluation date:

Date of the job evaluation.

JE Method:

You can use one of several job evaluation methods to derive job evaluation values. For example, Hay and Price Waterhouse Coopers are commonly used methods. When you save the WAP record, PayGlobal automatically creates Work Area Position Assessments makeup records on the Assessments tab page based on the JE Method value.

Remuneration policy:
  • Base Salary - Salary only.
  • Total Fixed Remuneration - Salary plus benefits excluding any bonuses or variable payments.
  • Total Remuneration - Salary plus benefits plus bonuses plus variable payments.
Benchmark:

Benchmark WAPs are evaluated using points to rank them against other WAPs in an organisation. For example, the CEO is worth 1600 points, the financial controller is worth 875 points, and the financial accountant is worth 425 points. Each WAP is on a scale that equates its point value to a dollar value.

Slotted:

Enabled when Benchmark = "No". You can select a WAP record, such as a benchmark WAP, and will use job evaluation details from that WAP.

Status:

You cannot delete benchmark WAPs because other WAPs may be 'slotted' with it, but you can close redundant WAPs.

Job size:

This value is derived from the Job Evaluation Methods record and it is provided by your consulting firm to calculate the remuneration range for a particular WAP. Job size is measured in points, which is then converted to salaries based on the following formula:

(Points * Slope) + Constant

Slope value:

PayGlobal uses slope value to recalculate job sizes. Consulting firms apply regression analysis to job evaluation data. Slope value is the dollar amount (such as $50) that applies to an increase or decrease of one point on the regression graph line.

Constant:

In regression analysis, the 'constant' is the value (such as $18,000) at which the line crosses the Y-axis of the graph at zero points. Payglobal uses this value when it recalculates job sizes.

Benchmark WAPs

To create a benchmark WAP:

  1. Initially set the Benchmark field to No. If Benchmark = "Yes", then the Evaluation date, JE Method, Benchmark and Slotted fields are disabled to help prevent alteration of benchmark records.
  2. Enter the applicable details for the benchmark WAP.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Change the Benchmark field to Yes.
  6. Click Save.

    The following Confirm message appears:

"The job evaluation for this Work Area Position is a benchmark. Only status, market rate, slope value and constant will be editable once saved. Are you sure you wish to save?"

  7. Click Yes.
  8. Click Close.
  9. To recalculate the PIR for employees with appointments in this benchmark, click Yes. Otherwise click No.

Recalculate Job Size

If you change any categories on the Assessments tab page, then you must use the right-click menu option Recalculate Job Size. PayGlobal can recalculate a job size only if you have assigned assessment and points values to every Work Area Position Assessments record. PayGlobal displays the recalculated job size in the Job Evaluation tab | Job size field.
